Meet My Preferred Vendors
I am beginning a new category introducing you to my fabulous vendors. I have worked with the
best and unfortunately the worst vendors in Austin (we won't be hearing from them). Vendors
can not "buy" their way onto my preferred vendor list because their listing is based strictly on
their quality of work, customer service and value of their product. Simple reasons, but not
easily achieved. I really appreciate all the talent and hard work my vendors bring to each
and every wedding, which is just one more reason to hire a wedding planner so they can
recommend the best and you don't have to worry on your wedding day.
So, welcome to the first of my vendor interviews:
Your business name: A la Vie Photography
You are: Pam Hults
Website: www.alaviephoto.com
How long have you been in business?
I started out as a newspaper photographer back in 1986 after graduating from the
University of Texas with a bachelors degree in photojournalism. When I had my son, I
thought I would try photographing weddings because I liked the schedule. I was surprised
to find that I enjoyed weddings much more than editorial work and became a full time
wedding photographer in 2001.
What drew you to your profession?
Weddings are a great way to utilize my photojournalism training. I love how family and
friends come together to celebrate a wedding. My job is to capture the emotions, humor
and what makes this wedding different from the one i photographed last week.
What is the best part about your job?
The best part of my job is when I hand over the pictures and I get such a great response.
A sweet one was from a client that Barbara and I had this past season. Jillian Bontke
wrote a note to say she can't wait to show her pictures to the kids they hope to have some
day. I love that my pictures have such meaning and will be enjoyed for years to come.
With all your experience, what bit of advice would you like to share?
The best advice I can give in hiring a photographer is to find someone that fits your style
with both vision and personality. You will be around your photographer for most of the
day and you should be comfortable with them. you also need to understand their approach.
Will they do a lot of poses or will they just quietly document the day? Some photographers
enjoy creating fun portraits while others enjoy finding the moments that define you.
What is your favorite wedding experience?
One of my favorite wedding experiences was this past weekend at a rehearsal dinner.
The uncle on the bride's side of the family stood up to say how he and his wife were
struggling to find a prayer that would be remembered. He then sang the first few lines
of Dionne Warwick's song " I say a Little Prayer For You". His wife got up and sang the
next couple of lines and then soon everyone joined in to sing "Forever and ever, you"ll
stay in our heart, you know that we will love you, forever and ever..." the couple was
very touched by the surprise and I had to hold my breath to not cry.
Thanks Pam for sharing your great information,
Barbara
