DIY Weddings

Working with brides that have a variety of budgets I hear different ideas
from them regarding DIY projects they want to do. Not all DIY projects
are due to costs or budget concerns. Creativity tends to be a big draw to
brides to have a hand in making something for their weddings. Whether
it's a menu card or a more challenging item like their centerpieces,
brides want their items to be beautiful.

It's my job to be the voice of reason and try to sense when my bride has
taken on too much. When I hear my bride wants to do her own flowers
the day before her wedding with the help of her bridesmaids or family,
I have to be very candid with her about the stress and practical
challenges this will cause. When they are doing a project that can be
100% completed a week or two before the wedding, that is much better,
but anything that can't be done further ahead of time is going to cause
stress which no brides should deal with. Making your own invitations,
menu cards, place cards, programs, favors, etc. are all great if you have
the software, printer and the time. It can be a lot of fun if you enjoy
creating things.

I had one bride who said she wasn't very creative but really wanted to
do something DIY for her wedding. She admitted she didn't have a
creative or crafty bone in her body, so my suggestion was to stuff and
assemble her invitations to be mailed. You may laugh, but she said that
was way too adventurous for her. She ended up leaving the assembling
to the invitation company and felt no stress trying to do something she
knew would be more than she expected time wise.

To Do It Yourself or not, it's your call but be honest with yourself,
