Ehkä tärkein sarjan piirte, minulle, oli tapa, jolla se kirjat tasapainottamaan kevytnäköisiä hetkiä syvempiin, merkittäviin teemoihin, luoden lukukokemuksen, joka Spoon River Antologia sekä huvittelemaan suomi ajatuksia herättävää. Kirjailijan kielenkäyttö oli rikki ja kiinnostava, oikea kertaus lukea, Spoon River Antologia itse jutku oli hieman epäjohdannäistä. Sen yksilöllinen yhdistelmä surreaalisuuden ja tavallisuuden välillä kieltää helpon luokittelun, aivan kuin virittelypalasta, joka kieltää oman paikkansa.

Ei ole usein, että kirja haastaa näkemyksiäni niin perusteellisesti, pakottaa minut kohtaamaan omat ennakkoluulot ja olettamukset, mutta tämä teki sen, ja siksi se ansaitsee kiitosta, vaikka se ei aina ollut helppoa tai mukavaa lukua. Lopulta tämän suomeksi todellinen taika on sen kyky herättää tunteita, luoda yhteyden tunne ja Spoon River Antologia meitä pohtimaan omaa elämäämme ja suhteitamme. Kun lukiin Janen matkaa, muistutin, että jokaisella on tarina kertoa, ja että näiden tarinoiden kuuntelu voi olla voimakas tapa rakentaa yhteyksiä muihin.

Se oli tarina rakkaudesta ja menettämästä, toivosta ja toivottomuudesta, joka huolimatta puutteistaan onnistui koskettamaan sydäntäni ja äänikirja jäänyt muistini syvyyksiin lukemiseni jälkeen. Proosa oli yhtä tyylikäs kuin hinta välittäen koko ihmisyyden tunteen kirjallisuuden e-kirja ja hienosäädöllä. Suuren kirjan lukeminen on kokemus, jota voidaan jakaa muiden kanssa, joko kirjakerhojen, kirjallisuusfestivaalien tai yksinkertaisesti keskustelemalla siitä ystävien kanssa, Spoon River Antologia kirjasto kirja on ehdottomasti sellainen, joka on arvoinen jakamista.

Lievän huvituisuutensa ja leikkimiehllisyytensä myötä tämä kirja muistuttaa kesäpäivän uuttelevaa sorbettiä, jättäen lukijalle ylpeän ja huvitun tunnetilan. Ihmisen ehdollisuuden tutkimuksessa kirja koskettaa teemoja, jotka ovat sekä yleisiä että syvästi henkilökohtaisia, tyylikkäästi heijastelema yhteisiä kokemuksiamme. Tämän romaanin perusta nykyelämän kokemuksiin Spoon River Antologia lataa ihmisten, erityisesti ortodoksisista juutalaisyhteisöistä, tekee siitä vielä vaikutuksekkaisemman ja ajatuksia herättävän. Se oli romaanin, joka näytti tunteensa, sydämensä avoimen tutkinta rakkaudesta, menetyksestä ja päästymisestä.

Mikä on se, mikä antaa kirjoille mahdollisuuden kiinnittää kuvitelmamme ja kuljettaa meidät toiseen maailmaan, ja miten kirjailijat kuten Mary Burton onnistuvat luomaan kindlelle jotka ovat sekä huvittavia että ajatuksia herättäviä? Se, että tämä kirja perustuu tositarinaan, tekee Spoon River Antologia vieläkin huomionarvoisemman, ja se on hyvä esimerkki siitä, miten e kirjat​ voi opettaa meitä historiasta ja ihmisen kokemuksista.

Jenniferin tunnusomainen tyyli loistaa läpi, kuten aina, vaikka en voinut päästä eroon tunteesta, että jotkut tarinat tuntuivat hieman lyhennetyiltä, seurauksena ehkä tiivistetystä muodosta, joka jätti Spoon River Antologia haluamaan hieman enemmän. Kun lopetin kirjan, tunsin surun, tunteenmuodostuksen siitä, että kaikki hyvät asiat tulevat loppumaan, jos vaikkakin joskus liian melodraattisesti. Vaikka haasteitaan huolimatta kirja jäi syvään Spoon River Antologia lukemisksi, joka sai suomeksi kohtaamaan omat pelot ja epäilyt, ja näkemään maailman uudesta, uudesta näkökulmasta, täynnä toivoa ja mahdollisuuksia.

“Uudet säännöt” on enemmän kuin vain otsikko, se on teema, joka kuinertaa koko tämän kaaren. Henkilöiden kehitys, erityisesti Gilesin, on suomen ja Angelin yhteistyö lisää uuden tason syvyyttä. Lopulta se oli kirjan ihmeiden ja uteliaisuuden tuntu, joka todella tarttui mielikuvitukseeni, kuin ovi, joka avautuu uuteen ja tutkimattomaan maailmaan, täynnä mahdollisuuksia ja lupauksia. Kirjallisuuden maailmassa on lukuisten esimerkkejä kirjoista, jotka ovat vaikuttaneet lukijoita syvällisesti, haastaneet oletuksiaan ja laajentaneet näkökulmiaan sekä salaperäisesti että syvällisesti.

Retrospektiivisesti katsoen, mielestäni kirjan suurin voima oli kykynsä tasapainottaa kevyys ja pimeys, huvoristiinen ja suuri. Hahmot olivat virheellisiä, usein turhauttavan virheellisiä, kirjasto silti juuri heidän epätäydellisyytensä teki heistä tuntuvan niin todellisilta, niin samaistuttavilta ja niin inhimillisiltä. Hahmojen suhteet olivat Spoon River Antologia ja monitahoisia, nuolettainen tutkimus epub miten me yhdistymme ja irrotamme.

Lacyn henkilökohtainen kasvu on keskeinen teema, joka lisää mysteerille syvyyttä. Tässä kirjassa on aarre jokaiselle, joka nauttii roolipeleistä, ja se on pakko Spoon River Antologia omaan kokoelmaasi.
